it's okay.....

IT'S OKAY IF YOU SIT ON MY QUILT
by Mary Ellen Hopkins

Many Christmases ago I received a gift from my sister in law.
This gift was life changing.
The gift consisted of a rotary mat and this book,
along with a a little note saying that the 3rd part of the gift
would be here soon.
I could NOT figure out how this book and this big green mat
were suppose to be used together.
I was a bit puzzled because I could not figure out what the 3rd part was. At this point in the game I already knew how to quilt, the old fashioned template way.
Can you guess what the 3rd part was?
About 3 weeks later, my very first
rotary cutter arrived in the mail.
That was the life changing part.

I had made a few quilts from THE SAMPLER QUILT by Diane Leone
tracing all the pattern pieces  to templates,
then to fabric and
 then cutting with scissors.

Not until THE IT'S OKAY IF YOU SIT ON MY BOOK
(along with my trusted mat and rotary cutter)
came along was I truly inspire to quilt every single day.

Fast forward 32 years and 300 quilts later and I still love a good quilt book.
I am fortune to have been involved with the making of
many books along with
having good friends that are talented authors.
But my brand newest,
most favorite book
as of right now today is,

The sub title says, Family, Friends, Foods  & Quilts.
Because I love it so much, I am going to give one away.
Tell me why you need this book and I will draw a winner at random on
SUNDAY, August 11th.
I will post the winner late in the evening.

  1. The first book was great, so I imagine this one will be amazing also. I can't wait to take a peek inside because I have been collecting the light fabrics. Perhaps this will give me a reason to cut into them.

  10. I can't believe it! I also have the "It's Okay if You Sit on My Quilt". I had the great fortune to attend a workshop with Mary Ellen Hopkins way up here in Canada. I do believe she was the inspiration for my 35 year quilting career! Would love a chance to win the book. Lurking Linda

  37. I need this book to remember the days when Sunday was a day to be with family and friends and enjoying food. Sunday was such a good day. Sadly the stores are opened, people are working and running around and not enjoying life like it use to be.

  38. Sunday afternoons are like heaven. There's nothing like that time to relax and enjoy time with family, take a nice nap, stitch on a quilt or bake a nice batch of cookies.
Low volume quilts are so intriguing and I would love to try one. This book would be a great guideline for giving it a whirl.

  40. Who doesn't need a great book about food, quilting, family and friends. With all that, what more could one need in life?

    ReplyDelete
  41. My first quilt book was "The Sampler Quilt." We were supposed to put them together using Georgia Bonesteel's lap quilting method. Mine is in the attic. I have all the blocks made for a king quilt and some of the blocks are quilted and I think I have one row finished. Oh, my, the back is plain muslin and shows everything. That's the way we did it then. It's a long story as to why it's unfinished and in the attic. Many, many years later I found out from the person who hurt my feelings over it, it was all a misunderstanding. Thanks for sharing your inspirations. Don't we all need another book - you never know from whence a great idea will emerge.
